Belmopan, July 7, 2023.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport congratulates two public officers from the Department of Transport ─ Mr. Gregory Witty, Prosecutor and Mr. Johnny Alvarado, Traffic Warden II ─ who successfully completed a six-week paralegal course hosted by the Belize Defence Force. Their dedication and commitment to professional development are commendable and their accomplishment is a testament to the ministry’s efforts to strengthen the technical capacity of the Department of Transport.

The public is also informed of the departure of Mrs. Dian Vasquez Garbutt from the Department of Transport in her role as Chief Transport Officer. The ministry thanks Mrs. Garbutt for her service to the people and Government of Belize and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours. During this period of transition, Mr. Peter Williams, Deputy Chief Transport Officer, will hold over as the Acting Chief Transport Officer in accordance with the standard succession hierarchy of the department.

Mr. Williams has worked in the public service for almost 15 years in various capacities within the department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in Business Law, Technical Writing and Organizational Behaviour. The ministry will advertise the post of Chief Transport Officer within the Public Service.

Lastly, the ministry is pleased to announce that, having met all the requirements of the Department of Transport, effective July 15, 2023, the ADO Bus Company will resume its services between Cancún, Mexico and Belize City. This is exciting news for the public as it will enhance connectivity and provide convenient transportation options between both countries. The ministry, through the Department of Transport, remains dedicated to promoting efficient and sustainable transportation systems that meet the needs of our citizens.
