The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, through the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) Honey Production Redevelopment Support Project (Honey Project), commenced a week-long workshop entitled “Training of Trainers in Advanced Beekeeping Management Practices.” The workshop is being held at the agriculture station in Yo Creek Village, Orange Walk from April 25 to 29, 2022.
Twenty beekeepers and five extension officers from the Belize, Orange Walk and Corozal districts are participating in the workshop aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial skills, organization, value addition and marketing. Topics include group dynamics, record keeping, good manufacturing practices, facilitation in diversification, marketing and value addition of honey and honey products.
The workshop forms a part of a grant agreement, Component 3 of Belize’s 2nd Cycle Country Assistance Program, which was signed on November 21, 2018, between the Government of Belize and the CDF. The project aims to expand the honey production subsector in Belize, target the delivery of new and additional capabilities to women and disadvantaged youth to reap the advantages of employment and empowerment through sector-specific knowledge acquisition.
This workshop is being hosted in collaboration with the Cooperative Department and local and international consultants.
