Belmopan. April 3, 2019. Any persons or companies who are importing or planning to import biodegradable single-use “plastic” food containers, utensils and grocery bags are being asked to contact the Department of the Environment (DOE) by April 12, 2019.
The DOE is in the process of establishing a registry for the importers of biodegradable single-use items that are alternatives to the plastic items that have been targeted for the national phase-out. This registry is necessary to ensure that importers will meet the legal standards being established for biodegradable items.
The DOE thanks all stakeholders for their understanding and support in the implementation of the national phase-out of single-use plastic bags and single-use Styrofoam and plastic food containers and utensils.
