Notice to Commercial Users and Water Boards on Rudimentary Water Systems

Belmopan. March 25, 2020.  The public, especially those served by rudimentary water systems, is hereby reminded that these systems were designed for DOMESTIC use only.

The Ministry of Labour, Local Government and Rural Development is aware that there are water bottle companies connected to these systems that are using a considerable amount of water affecting the residents of the villages. The village water boards are strongly advised to immediately address this practice in order to ensure that the priority, which is the residential water consumption, is met.

Also, villagers using the water supply to fill pools are advised to cease this practice or the boards will take necessary actions for compliance.

Water is very important for the sustenance of life and under the current and evolving conditions surrounding COVID-19, it is even more important to practice personal hygiene. Therefore, the Ministry asks that actions are taken to conserve this precious resource.

The Ministry urges all villagers to observe and comply with the Ministry of Health’s advice on social distancing, restrictions on public gatherings, and take the preventative measures to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to themselves, their loved ones and the community.
