Belmopan, December 10, 2024.
The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends mourning the loss of their loved ones in recent road traffic collisions. We share in your grief during this unimaginable time and stand in solidarity with all those affected by these heartbreaking tragedies.
As we approach this busy time of the year, we are reminded of the importance of prioritizing road safety. We urge all road users to exercise extreme caution: stay within speed limits, always use seat belts, remain mindful of road conditions, avoid drinking and driving, and overtake only when it is safe and legal. These simple precautions can save lives.
The Ministry is strengthening its response to road safety following the recent accidents. In collaboration with the police department and municipal traffic authorities, we will increase patrols and vehicle checkpoints, particularly at night, to enhance enforcement of traffic regulations. We will also conduct media sessions to share tips and best practices to deter unsafe driving behaviour. Violators of traffic regulations will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.
This is a time to come together as a community to honour the memories of those we have lost by committing to safer practices on our roads. Let us all play our part in protecting lives and ensuring that this season is one of reflection, compassion, and care for one another.
