The Ministry of National Security hosted a virtual launch of the first-ever Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda for the Security Forces in Belize. The launch was broadcasted via live stream on the Government of Belize Press Office Facebook page.
The main objective of the WPS Agenda is to lay the groundwork to enable the Government of Belize to increase women’s participation in efforts to promote security, maintain peace, and prevent conflict. This is in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and in support of Belize’s national security goals (National Security and Defence Strategy 2018-2021) and Horizon 2030 commitments.
The WPS Agenda Launch emphasized the vision “to empower women as equal partners in the development of a prosperous and stable Belize especially in achieving our national security goals”.
The launch was hosted by the Minister of National Security, Hon. Michael Peyrefitte. The Keynote address was delivered by Ms. Judith Alpuche, CEO in the Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation.
