Ministry of Investment and The Corozal Think Tank Launch Two Projects in Corozal Town
Belmopan, July 11, 2024.
The Ministry of Investment, through its Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), joined the Corozal Think Tank at the Corozal ITVET, for the launch of two projects titled, “Animation Bootcamp for Belizean Women and Girls” and “Cell Phone Repair Course for Women and Youth.”
The Corozal Think Tank acts as the Steering Committee for the Regional Economic Development Masterplan for the Corozal District, which was realigned with the priorities of the Plan Belize Medium-Term Development Strategy. The group of professionals from the Corozal District are tasked with identifying and implementing projects and policy recommendations that will generate economic activity and prosperity for residents.
The objective of the “Animation Bootcamp for Belizean Women and Girls” is to provide opportunities for women in the Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize Districts, to learn basic digital skills in graphic art and animation, for participants to be able to produce short, animated movies. The demand for these skills utilized in the Orange Economy is increasing across various industries, including film, television, gaming, advertising, and marketing.
The second project, “Cell Phone Repair Course for Women and Youth,” is being implemented due to the need for technicians who are skilled in the upkeep, cleaning, and overall maintenance and repair of cell phone devices. Not only is there is currently no training course of this kind in Belize, but the accessibility of cell phone repair services is lacking in various parts of country.
Present at the launch were CEO Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister and Investment; Mrs. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Chair of the Corozal Think Tank and the National Women’s Commission; Mr. Rick Pech, Manager of the Corozal ITVET and Ms. Jill Tsai, Project Manager of the Taiwan Technical Mission.  Also present was Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, Ministry of Investment.
The Corozal Think Tank and the Ministry of Investment aim to diversify export-led economic activity in the district by enhancing the skills and entrepreneurial spirit of the citizens, especially in growth sectors such as the Orange Economy. The training being offered will enhance the possibility of women to generate additional income from home.
The Chair of the Corozal Think Tank invites the women and youth of Corozal to register to participate in these two trainings.
