Belmopan February 8, 2021. 4:30 p.m.

Today, the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs received a donation of 523 bales of fabric from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The donation is made possible by a charity foundation in Southern Taiwan through the coordination of the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize. It is valued at BZ$94,602 and includes polyester, rayon and spandex, which will be distributed to women’s groups and entrepreneurs across the country by the Women and Family Support Department. The Department will support the income-generating activities of the beneficiaries by providing an opportunity for the creation, marketing and distribution of a variety of quality, authentic, Belizean products made from the fabric.

The empowerment of women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries. The Ministry is therefore very grateful to the people and Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the generous donation which will empower women and families across the country, and thus, contribute to Belize’s economic development.

Present for the handing-over of the donation were Hon. Dolores Balderamos Garcia, the Minister of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs; Hon. Gilroy Usher, Minister of State; H.E. Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize; Mrs. Tanya Santos Neal, CEO in the Ministry; Ms. Krista Barrow, Job Placement Officer, Women and Family Support Department; Ms. Olivia Patt and Ms. Raquel Vega, representatives of two of the beneficiary women’s groups.
