Belmopan, November 13, 2024.
The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), on behalf of the Government of Belize, has made significant strides in advancing public health initiatives through the Global Fund Cycle 7 grant. With a budget of over $3 million approved, this grant will serve as a vital investment in our national efforts to fight HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, enhancing health outcomes and promoting economic growth within our communities.
In early October 2024, MED completed an extensive capacity assessment and received official authorization from the Global Fund to act as the Principal Recipient for the Cycle 7 grant (2025-2027). MED has successfully obtained approval for all key project documents, including the Implementation Map, Detailed Budget, Performance Framework, and Monitoring and Evaluation Plan. This endorsement highlights confidence in the ability to implement this critical program effectively.
The Ministry of Economic Development stands poised to harness the resources from the Global Fund to bolster national health initiatives significantly. The advancements made during the preparation phase will be essential for the project’s successful launch and sustained impact, set to begin in January 2025. Dedication to capacity building, strong team development, and strategic monitoring will be crucial for this transformative mission to drive economic growth and improve health outcomes across Belize.
Carlos Pol, Acting Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Development, expresses sincere gratitude to all key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Wellness, National AIDS Commission, National Health Insurance, Belize Family Life Association, GoJoven, and MED officers, whose collaboration marks a historic achievement for Belize.
