Ministry of Blue Economy Meets with Key Partners in San Pedro

Hon. Andre Perez, Minister of Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, along with representatives from the Ministry, met with key partners in San Pedro to discuss collaboration opportunities.

Discussions focused on opportunities for greater community involvement. The highlight of the meeting was Minister Perez’s invitation to the partners to explore opportunities for co-management of the Bacalar Chico Reserve in San Pedro. This is in accordance with the Ministry of Blue Economy’s principle of inclusivity and community engagement. The Minister noted that best practices have shown that the community must be an integral partner in the management of its marine reserves.

The Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation welcomes the opportunity to engage with all sectors interested and able to partner in its vision: “By 2030, Belize’s Blue Economy will be productive, resilient and vibrant, contributing substantially to the socio-economic well-being of the country and its people.”

Kennedy Carrillo, CEO in the Ministry, and Beverly Wade, Policy and Planning Advisor, accompanied Minister Perez. Present were representatives of the San Pedro Fishing Association, San Pedro Tour Operators Association, San Pedro Tour Association, and the San Pedro Town Council.
