The Government of Belize, in collaboration with the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation (MBECA), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative for Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize, and Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is today hosting the first Gender in Fisheries and Coastal Zone Consultation at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City.
The consultation is a deliverable of the GCF readiness project entitled, “Enhancing adaptation planning and increasing climate resilience in the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize.”
The agenda includes an overview of the following:
- Belize National Climate Change Gender Action Plan 2022-2027;
- The National Gender Policy and Action Plan; and
- A gender analysis, strategy and action plan on gender mainstreaming in fisheries member states for the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism.
This will assist the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector Gender Strategy development by analyzing Belize’s fisheries sector from a gender perspective and identifying Belize’s key gender-responsive climate actions, performance indicators, targets and developmental impacts for the coastal zone and fisheries sector.
The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, experts and policymakers from the coastal zone and fisheries sectors.
