Minister of Health Receives Grant Cheque to Assist Southern Regional Hospital

Belmopan. March 11, 2021. 5:35 p.m.

Today Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness, along with Dr. Franelda Guitterez, Regional Health Manager, Southern Regional Health, received a grant cheque of BZ$398,500 from the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Kazuhiro Iryu.

In 2019, a grant application was submitted for ambulances by management at the Southern Regional Hospital through the Grassroots Human Security Projects. The proposal was granted in January 2020.

At the handing over, Minister Chebat extended his appreciation to the Japanese Ambassador, “We are grateful to be the beneficiary of this token as it adds to the atmosphere of hope during this COVID time.” In turn, Ambassador Iryu expressed that he anticipates that the donation will enhance the friendly relationship between both countries.

The “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” is a grant aid project that assists non-governmental organizations and local public authorities in developing countries to improve basic human needs at the grassroots level and provides support for the improvement of health facilities and procurement of equipment for hospitals.

The ambulances will be purchased and delivered to the Southern Regional Hospital within the next week.
