Labour Department Launches Electronic TEP System

Belmopan. January 4, 2021. 3:00 p.m.

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government today held an online ceremony for the newly launched electronic Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) System. The Ministry celebrates this achievement after a very lengthy process that led to the successful development of this new and improved TEP system.

The electronic TEP system will allow persons to apply with supporting documents online.  Person-to-person interviews will no longer be carried out in office; however, the system will facilitate online scheduling and holding of interviews. The electronic TEP system will ensure compliance with local and international laws and conventions relating to decent work, child labour, and human trafficking.

The development of the online system was overseen by a steering committee comprised of representatives from the Labour Department, Central Information Technology Office, and Social Security Board. The developer of the system is Global IT Solutions from San Ignacio Town, Cayo District.

Present at the launch were the Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, who delivered the keynote address; Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer; staff of the Labour Department, and stakeholders involved in the development of the online TEP system.

The Labour Department reminds the public that effective January 14, 2021, ALL Temporary Employment Permit applications will only be processed online at https://tep.mlgrd.gov.bz/.
