Belmopan, October 29, 2021. On December 28, 2020, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea, within the framework of the Korea-CABEI Partnership Single Donor Trust Fund (KTF), administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), approved a technical cooperation in-kind to support the Republics of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, the Dominican Republic and Cuba (beneficiary countries), in their response to contain the effects of COVID-19.
This morning in a small handing over ceremony, Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, and Dr. Deysi Mendez, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Health and Wellness, received a total of 816,480 KF94 masks of Korean origin purchased through this technical cooperation at a total value of BZ$660,000. This donation is in addition to the 260 AccuPrep Viral RNA Extraction Kits and 16,000 units of sample kits Clinical Virus Transport Medium received in July 2020, related to the emergency that Belize is facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also virtually present at the ceremony were Dr. Dante Mossi, Executive President, Central American Bank for Economic Integration, and Mr. Dongjoon Kim, Director, Republic of Korea to CABEI.
This Non-Reimbursable Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Government of Belize was signed on September 2021.
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration remains committed to assisting the people and Government of Belize in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
