The Government of Belize through the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Representative for Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize, and Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the Ministry of Economic Development, has organized a Green Climate Fund Stakeholder Engagement Workshop for the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector of Belize. The event will take place on May 12, 2022, at the Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina, Belize City.

A part of the GCF readiness project entitled, “Enhancing adaptation planning and increasing climate resilience in the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize,” the workshop will raise awareness of the impacts of climate change on the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize. Additionally, it will raise awareness of the GCF and will discuss the roles and responsibilities of the relevant organizations for the reduction of risk outlined in the project risk table.

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers from the coastal zone and fisheries sectors. These include government ministries, departments, quasi-governmental institutions, marine reserves, conservation trusts, fishermen associations and cooperatives, academia, regional and non-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, and indigenous groups.
