Belize City, August 29, 2024.
The Government of Belize announces the establishment of the Emergency Powers Review Tribunal pursuant to Regulation 21A of the Belize Constitution (Emergency Powers) Regulations, 2024.
The Tribunal consists of the following persons:
- Jose M. Alpuche, Attorney-at-Law, who has been appointed as the Chairman of the Tribunal
- Gerald Westby, Former Commissioner of Police
- Jose Carmen Zetina, Former Commissioner of Police
The Emergency Powers Review Tribunal has been established to review cases of persons detained under the Belize Constitution (Emergency Powers) Regulations. The Tribunal will function independently in accordance with the Belize Constitution and regulations made thereunder.
