Defensive Driving Course

Belmopan. January 25, 2022.

On Friday, 21st January 2022, 27 persons concluded a four-day Defensive Driving Training through the partnership of Belize’s Second Road Safety Project, the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Belize Institute of Management with financial support from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

An objective of the project is to improve road user behavior to reduce road crashes and the resulting injuries and deaths. Therefore, the Defensive Driving Training aims to build the capacity of drivers by curving reckless behaviours and striving to create an environment of teamwork when using the road system so that all road users feel safe. International good practice suggests that anyone driving should undergo a basic Defensive Driving Course and First Responders Training.

Representatives of the ministries of Transport and Health, municipal traffic departments and EMT Services completed the course, which comprised of two days of virtual theory and driving tests.

The Government of Belize received funds through loan financing from the CDB towards the cost of Belize’s Second Road Safety Project in 2019.

With the high number of road crashes in Belize, the Government of Belize remains committed to providing drivers with the skills and knowledge they should have to demonstrate good and safe driving practices.
