Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, in collaboration with the Taiwan ICDF Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep Project Phase II), held a Sheep & Goat Management Workshop in Bermudan Landing Village, Belize District.
Twenty-five sheep and goat farmers, butchers and restaurateurs from the Belize District participated in the workshop. The session focused on sheep traceability system, animal health, animal nutrition, and practical skills in mutton culinary demonstration, Famacha system demonstration, and body condition score practice.
The workshop is another commitment of the Sheep Project Phase II to help local farmers by providing training in daily farm management and culinary skills of lamb and mutton to improve the productivity of the sheep and goat industry and increase consumers’ acceptance of lamb and mutton products in Belize.
The governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) are committed to working together to support Belizean farmers and strengthen the sheep and goat industry in Belize. Through the Sheep and Goat Project, the theoretical and practical trainings and educational outreach will help to further advance the welfare of Belizeans.
