Belize joined 19 other countries in Seoul, Korea, for the 6th Korea-LAC Business Summit jointly organized by the Inter-American Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea, the Korea Export-Import Bank, and the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. The summit aims to strengthen and expand trade, investment, and cooperation ties between the Republic of Korea and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
The event, which was held under the theme, “Strengthening social and economic cooperation toward a more resilient post-COVID era,” was organized around thematic discussion sessions with the participation of high-level public and private sector officials from both regions. Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, along with Mr. Jalen Avila, Investment Associate of BELTRAIDE, represented Belize.
Mr. Avila promoted some of Belize’s investment projects in ICT and other priority investment sectors and met with Korean investors to discuss business opportunities. CEO Shal participated in panel discussions: (1) Confronting Climate Change: Coordinated Crisis Response and (2) Promoting Korea-LAC Synergies to Boost Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development in Agriculture.
Speaking at the summit, CEO Shal stated, “Belize’s participation not only contributes to improving our country’s profile but also reaffirms the government’s commitment to engaging in partnerships that are coherent with Plan Belize’s goal of stimulating economic activity through local and foreign direct investments and economic cooperation.”
