Belize Participates in FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean

Today, Belize joined the 36th Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hosted virtually by Nicaragua, the three-day conference will bring together all FAO member countries in the region to establish the Organization’s regional priorities for the next two years.  The FAO will report on the results achieved in the period 2018-2019 and will assist countries to find joint solutions to the challenges of food security, rural development, innovation, climate change and sustainable agriculture, fisheries, livestock and forestry. Additionally, the conference will focus on transforming food systems for healthy diets for all, moving hand-in-hand towards prosperous and inclusive rural societies, sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture, and driving innovation and digital agriculture.

Belize’s delegation is being led by the Hon. Godwin Hulse, Minister of Food and Agriculture. Minister Hulse is joined by Mr. Edmund Zuniga, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture; Mr. Andrew Harrison, Chief Agriculture Officer; Mr. Armando Aban, FAO National Correspondent for Belize; Mr. Martin Alegria, Chief Environmental Officer, and other personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Minister of Agriculture is expected to address the following topics during the conference:

  • Sustainable and Climate Resilient Agriculture
  • Innovation and Digital Agriculture.
  • Improving FAO’s capabilities to save member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
