Belize Convenes its National Validation Workshop to Validate 2024 Voluntary National Review

Belize City, May 10, 2024.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change successfully convened the National Validation Workshop for Belize’s 2024 Voluntary National Review (VNR), a synergistic event organized by the Sustainable Development Unit in partnership with the United Nations (UN) in Belize, at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza on May 9.

As part of its follow-up and review mechanism, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages UN member countries to “conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven”. Belize 2024 VNR will be presented at the High-Level Political Forum in New York in July 2024 to share the country’s experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, with a view to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Belize in this challenged decade of action.

Belize’s 2024 VNR Report assesses the progress to date, inclusive of the country’s past and current medium-term development strategies, and serves to inform the necessary adjustments to be made for our national plans to be more impactful and effective in its efforts to build a more democratic, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient Belize. The report will also assess GOB’s Public Sector Investment Programme contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The workshop included presentations on each of the Five Pillars ofSustainable Development (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership) on the findings of progress made towards achieving the SDGs and recommendations on accelerating its implementation. Following each presentation, participants were engaged in a question-and-answer session to provide feedback and recommendations.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change expresses its gratitude to all participants and partners for their active engagement and valuable contributions to this dialogue around the SDGs.
