Department of Transport Meets with Belize District Bus Operators

Belmopan. June 24, 2021.

On June 21, 2021, the Department of Transport held a consultation with Haylock, Ramos, Serrano and Thomas bus companies, the four major bus shuttle operators servicing Ladyville, Los Lagos, and Lords Bank areas in the Belize District.

The shuttle operators were presented with revised schedules outlined by the department and based on research that was undertaken over a two-week period. These new amendments to the permits saw the reduction of over 50% of bus runs, and improved bus schedules based on peak and off-peak demands. The changes will reduce conflict between operators and facilitate a safer traveling experience for all bus commuters in the areas mentioned.

The consultation was chaired by Mr. Marconi Leal, Jr., CEO in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics, in the presence of Mrs. Dian Vasquez, chief transport officer, and facilitated by Mr. Eric Sanchez, transport planner.

The Department of Transport is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and thanks the bus operators for their cooperation in moving forward with this mandate.
