Ministry of Local Government Inaugurates the Rehabilitated Bullet Tree Falls Rural Water System

Belmopan. March 15, 2021. 5:50 p.m.

Today, the Hon. Oscar Requeña, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, along with the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), held an inauguration ceremony for the opening of an enhanced rural water system under the project entitled, “Improving community access to safe and potable water sourced from the Mopan River and the Chiquibul National Park with the enhanced green technology infrastructure.”

The main objectives of this project were to expand the filtration, treatment, and storage capacity of the water system; to apply solar power technology to replace the existing grid; and to build community awareness through the conservation of the Mopan River and the Chiquibul Forest.

The implementation of this project now allows for the community of Bullet Tree Falls to have improved access to potable water through the strengthening of the water intake, water treatment, water storage, and distribution systems.

This project was funded by the Government of Belize and PACT for a total investment of BZ$449,310.30.

Also present at the ceremony were Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness and area representative for Cayo North; Hon. Ramiro Ramirez, Minister of State for the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government; Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer; and Mrs. Nayari Diaz-Perez, Executive Director for PACT.
