COVID-19 Outbreak at Palm View Center

Belmopan. January 5, 2021. 5:10 p.m.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness regrets to inform the public of a COVID-19 outbreak at its residential care facility, the Palm View Center in Belmopan.

The Palm View Center is a mental health facility with a total of 27 residents. The facility is reporting that 21 residents and seven staff have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. No deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak as of January 4, 2021.

The Ministry has tested all patients and staff and will be following up according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness COVID-19 testing guidelines. This arrangement has helped address the outbreak and stabilize the situation for the wellbeing of the residents and the staff. Staff and residents who do not have serious symptoms are medically isolated but not hospitalized. Negative patients have been relocated to another building on the property.

The Center has prepared for the possibility of outbreaks as has been the case at other vulnerable settings. The Ministry of Health and Wellness is providing clear guidance for the facility in responding and controlling the spread of COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness urges the public to continue to wear a face mask properly, maintain consistent physical distancing, and wash and sanitize hands often. Be safe and stay at home unless conducting essential business.

Let’s join forces to stop the spread of COVID-19.
