Belmopan. December 13, 2020. 1:30 p.m.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Michel Chebat, joins Belizeans and healthcare workers in prayer and sharing of condolences to the Guerra family on the passing of twin brothers, Dr. Kevin and Dr. Kenneth Guerra.

Dr. Kevin Guerra died on December 12, 2020. He worked at the Independence Polyclinic under the Ministry of Health and Wellness for five years. The Ministry learned with sadness that Dr. Kenneth Guerra also lost the fight to COVID-19 this morning, December 13, 2020. Dr. Kenneth worked at the San Ignacio Community Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Wellness for three years. The Guerra brothers were beloved husbands, fathers, sons, friends, and medical colleagues. They were appreciated and admired by their patients and colleagues and will be greatly missed by the communities they served.

Unfortunately, Drs. Kevin and Kenneth Guerra are Belize’s first healthcare workers to have lost their lives to complications due to COVID-19. The Ministry values the health of its frontline workers and continues to work diligently to ensure frontline workers remain prepared and equipped for any impact from COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness reminds the public to visit the nearest flu clinic for testing and medical management if they are experiencing signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or call the hotline number 0-800-MOH-CARE (0-800-664-2273). If experiencing difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, or chest pain while in isolation or quarantine, seek medical attention immediately.

The Ministry offers thoughts and prayers to all healthcare workers and all persons who are fighting the battle against this deadly virus. The Ministry of Health and Wellness offers its deepest condolences to the families of Drs. Kevin and Kenneth Guerra. They served their patients and country well.

Let us join forces in the fight against COVID-19.
