NEMO Toledo Emergency Award Luncheon & Annual Review Meeting

Belmopan. February 7, 2019. Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management, Hon. Edmond Castro, was Keynote Speaker at the NEMO Toledo District Emergency Award Ceremony and Luncheon, yesterday, February 6, 2019. The award luncheon was held to recognize exemplary performance by individuals, departments and organizations throughout 2018.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership Award went to Humana – People to People Belize; Emergency Worker of the Year was Rashida Guzman of the Department of Human Services; the Team Spirit Award went to the Department of Human Services; Outstanding Village Emergency Committee of the Year was Blue Creek; Lyle Williams of the Ministry of Health received the Disaster Risk Reduction Lifetime Service Award; and the Emergency Operations Center Outstanding Service Award went to Giovanni Ramirez.

Service medals were also presented to four persons, namely, Vincent Mangar of Ministry of Works; Morna Mangar of Forestry Department; Justaquio Tush, Agriculture Officer; and George Tillett, Education Officer.

Other speakers at the ceremony included, Chairperson of the Toledo Emergency Committee, Punta Gorda Mayor Ashton McKenzie, who delivered the Opening Remarks; and Deputy Chair, Senator Macario Coy. In presenting the awards, the Minister was assisted by NEMO Southern Regional Coordinator, Keith Emmanuel, who also delivered the Thank You Address. Master of Ceremonies was NEMO Toledo District Coordinator, Kenton Parham.  The program was preceded by the Toledo District Emergency Committee’s Annual Review and Planning Meeting. Both were held at the NEMO Toledo District Emergency Operations Center at Machaca.
