Belmopan, December 23, 2024.
As the holiday season approaches, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport reminds drivers, passengers, and pedestrians to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations. Increased travel and holiday activities are expected to lead to heavier traffic, heightening the risk of accidents and disruptions.
The Ministry urges all road users to exercise caution and follow traffic rules, including speed limits, seatbelt requirements, and pedestrian crossing signals. Drivers are also reminded to avoid distractions, such as mobile phone use, and to designate a sober driver if planning to consume alcohol.
To ensure safe travels, the Ministry advises conducting proper vehicle maintenance before long-distance trips. Routine checks can prevent breakdowns and contribute to a smooth journey.
Increased traffic patrols and roadside checks will be conducted throughout the season, and fines will be issued for violations of traffic laws. Together, we can make this holiday season safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The Ministry wishes everyone a safe and joyous holiday season.
