Ministry of Investment and the Corozal Think Tank Start Training on Cell Phone Repair for Women in Corozal Town

Ministry of Investment and the Corozal Think Tank Start Training on Cell Phone Repair for Women in Corozal Town

Belmopan, August 20, 2024.

The Ministry of Investment, through its Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), joined the Corozal Think Tank and the National Womens’ Commission at the Corozal ITVET for the start of the training titled “CellPhone Repair Course for Women and Youth.”

The Corozal Think Tank acts as the Steering Committee for the Regional Economic Development Masterplan for the Corozal District, which was realigned with the priorities of the Plan Belize Medium-Term Development Strategy. The group of professionals in the Corozal Think Tank are tasked with identifying and implementing projects and policy recommendations that will generate economic activity and prosperity for residents.

The objective of the course is to bring sustainable self-employment opportunities to the participants.   It is being implemented because there is need for technicians who are skilled in the upkeep, cleaning, maintenance and repair of cell phone devices. There is currently no training course of this kind in Belize, and the offer of cell phone repair service is lacking in various parts of country.

The Corozal Think Tank, The Womens’ Commission and the Ministry of Investment aim to diversify export-led economic activity in the district by enhancing the skills and entrepreneurial spirit of the citizens, especially in growth sectors such as the Orange Economy. The skills training being offered will enhance the generation of additional income from home by repairing cell phones, which are one of the main devices used by the Orange Economy to produce content.

Present at the opening of the training were Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, Ministry of Investment, Mrs. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Chair of the Corozal Think Tank and the National Women’s Commission and Mr. Rick Pech, Manager of the Corozal ITVET.
