Radiology Technicians Receive National Assistant Radiographer Training

Belmopan. March 1, 2023.

Today, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), and the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) held a ceremony to mark the start of the National Assistant Radiographer Training.

This training is part of the Strengthening Medical Imaging System Project in Belize, which was launched in 2019 to build the capacity of medical imaging services in public hospitals. Through this project, Taiwan has trained four Belizean radiographers to become seed instructors, who will now train radiology technicians countrywide on digital x-ray skills.

Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness, welcomed H.E. Lily Li-Wen Hsu, Taiwan’s new ambassador to Belize, who made her first official appearance at an event since her arrival. Minister Bernard thanked the ambassador for the opportunities afforded to the radiologists to gain skills to improve their services.

Ambassador Hsu likewise expressed appreciation to the minister and reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Taiwan to continuing to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in health.

Mrs. Chandra Cansino, Chief Executive Officer at KHMHA, also shared remarks on the occasion, congratulating and encouraging the trainers.

The training will be done in three groups, with the first starting today. Each group must complete six days of training and a post-training assessment to be certified.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness also welcomes Ms. Evita Lin, Senior Radiographer from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, who is supervising the training.
